Thomas Ogorzalek

Thomas Ogorzalek, PhD, is lead researcher and coordinator for CoLab Research. He has more than 15 years of experience in conducting and sharing research in political, corporate, academic, non-profit, and advocacy topics and settings. An expert in urban politics, American political history and elections, and racial inequality, he is the author of the award-winning book The Cities on the Hill: How Urban Institutions Transformed National Politics (Oxford University Press). His research and commentary has appeared in the Washington Post, Du Bois Review, Electoral Studies, Journal of Politics, and American Political Science Review; and he has appeared on MSNBC, Televisa, WTTW-Chicago, and public radio outlets. Spencer Piston, PhD, is a researcher for CoLab Research. An expert in welfare policy and criminal justice policy, his scholarship has won numerous awards. He is the author of Class Attitudes in America (Cambridge University Press) and he has published a wide range of articles in top-tier political science journals. His commentary and research has been published in or covered by leading news media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Nation, Slate, Salon, New York Magazine, and Jacobin.
